Ice Damming Issues

This winter I have seen a lot of ice dams. Even the Cape Cod Style house I live in has ice dams. Ice dams can be limited by raking the snow off the roof along the edges. Also, if you have ice dams, laying a nylon stocking filled with snow melt pellets will make a channel through the ice to let trapped water drain away.
